This centrally located historic property offers convenient access to the French Quarter and major attractions but has drawn consistent criticism for outdated facilities, inconsistent housekeeping, and safety/security concerns. While some guests praise the friendly staff and cleanliness of individual rooms, others report significant maintenance failures and service lapses.
First, every guest who placed a card on file experienced unauthorized charges. Many accounts reflected approximately $200 to over $700 without prior authorization or clear explanation. Although it was later stated that these charges would be refunded, the excess amounts significantly restricted guests’ ability to access their funds during their stay and preventing them from fully enjoying the experience they had already paid for. Additionally, four guests were locked out of their room for nearly going on twelve hours. During this time, they were unable to access essential personal belongings, including medication, cash, and other necessary items. One of the roommates had a daily medication and had been unable to take it since the night before the issue arised. When the issue was brought to the attention of the guest agent on duty, Nick, we were informed that there was nothing he could do and that the room could not be unlocked. While he arranged an additional room despite the hotel being fully booked, this was presented as a favor for which we should be grateful and told a female she should be happy he gave her a place to place her head on. However, this situation arose through no fault of the guests, and all rooms had already been fully paid for. Being provided access to accommodations we had already purchased should not have been framed as a courtesy. Throughout the evening, multiple other issues arose. Several rooms had no functioning air conditioning, resulting in at least four guests being relocated. Other guests also experienced AC problems but hesitated to report them due to concerns about being threatened with removal from the property. During the course of the evening, Nick became visibly frustrated and began threatening to remove members of our party from the hotel. Security personnel were sent throughout the halls and lobby specifically looking for individuals associated with our group. Guests were told they could not sit in the lobby while waiting for roommates and were effectively limited to remaining in their rooms or standing outside. There were also inconsistencies in service. Some guests were denied basic requests, such as extra bath towels, and were told only a limited number of washcloths were available. Meanwhile, other guests not associated with our party appeared to receive bath towels without issue. Further concerns arose regarding communication. We were informed that maintenance and a supervisor would arrive at a specific time the following morning. However, when the next guest agent, Lavender, arrived, she indicated that no such personnel were scheduled at that time and was unaware of why we had been given that information. As of forty-five minutes before checkout, the guests who had been locked out of their room still had not regained access to their belongings. After nearly eighteen hours without access to medication and personal items, no meaningful accommodation had been provided. Guests who were unable to park on-site were directed by multiple hotel staff members to use a specific nearby parking garage. After following those instructions, several vehicles were broken into and had their windows shattered. Guests relied on the hotel’s explicit guidance, and this resulted in significant property damage. Our group has paid in excess of $19,000 for this property. The combination of unauthorized charges, prolonged room inaccessibility, unresolved maintenance issues, inconsistent service, and the manner in which concerns were handled has resulted in a highly distressing and unsatisfactory experience.
Do not recommend! Noise! Noise! Noise! And no continental breakfast! I absolutely agree with others that staff is friendly, the lobby is cute, and the location is great but I would not recommend staying here. First, they lied about breakfast. They do have a cafe but it is a separate private coffee shop that sells coffee and pastries. It has nothing to do with a free continental breakfast. Second, rooms do not have microwaves!!! You can’t even make your own breakfast! And third, and the most annoying is noise. You can’t even hear everything happening outside even on the 5th floor. You can’t also hear people in other room. But the worst thing is at around 6 am a buzzing noise woke me up, as if someone was talking a shower and the pipes were “screaming” or maybe staff were vacuuming other rooms but at 7 am the noise is still here. So I don’t have enough sleep and now have to work all day at a conference. Omg! The noise just stopped! I guess it was a vacuum cleaner! Imagine, they vacuumed somebody’s room for an hour and I could hear every second of it! No! No! No! Never again!
My family and I had 3 rooms for Mardi Gras (2/4-2/10). I'm going to start with the positives. The hotel is beautiful! The location is great in relation to Canal St and Bourbon St (only about 1.5 blocks away from Canal St). There is a small coffee shop in the lobby. There is also an Indian restaurant attached as well. There are numerous good restaurants nearby. There is a corner store only 1 block away along with a CVS & Walgreens a few blocks away as well. Making the reservations was effortless. We were traveling with a family member that required the use of a rental scooter. The hotel was able to store the scooter until we arrived because we had a delayed arrival. Now, the negatives. The rooms didn't have a dresser or microwave. We had to live out of our suitcases for 6 days. They could put the dresser in the closet and guest could stack their suitcases on top of the dresser out of the way. When we wanted to reheat food, we had to go to the lobby and use the 1 microwave that was available for the entire hotel. They should at least have a microwave on each floor. Upon check-in we were told that if we wanted our rooms cleaned that we would have to alert the front desk 24 hours in advance. On day 3 we did just that and it took another 2 days to get someone to clean our rooms and that only happened because we complained and the manager happened to be at the front desk at the time. What we found out is that they create a list of rooms for housekeeping to clean daily and for some reason our rooms didn't make the list. They made the list the day after they had already been cleaned. There is only basic cable. No HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, nothing. You can't even access your Netflix if you wanted too. The cost vs the amenities. Makes this hotel an average place to stay.
Was told to find my own parking after checking in. All surrounding parking was also full so we parked couple miles away and had to find a ride back to hotel which put us late for our event that evening. Also room was not completely cleaned. Floor was filthy and bathroom was so sticky. The location was good if your event is in the super dome. The coffee shop in hotel is also convenient but the workers are absolutely rude. The biggest down fall was not having parking and i payed $800 for one night at this hotel and was out of another $150 after paying for extra parking somewhere else.
It was exactly as expected from the brand. Our fee staff interactions were positive. The usual New Orleans congeniality was on display. A staff member even located and brought up the hoodie our daughter dropped before we even realized it was gone! Excellent location for the CBD, the Quarter, the Warehouse District and not too far from the Marigny. Would stay again.
I initially booked the room for the entire month and a half that I will be working in NOLA. My disappointment of this hotel and my stay began nearly immediately upon arrival. There is no true load and unload area. There is a front, on street entrance, that is big enough for 2 cars to parallel park directly in front of the hotel doors. The sidewalk in front of the hotel is grossly slanted to the street (I assume to provide water runoff) and causes the luggage carts to roll off the edge, directly into the busy city street, unless you have a person to assist you by holding it in place. Because I was alone, I literally had to turn the cart sideways and brace it against a light pole, in order to unload my car. Additionally, it was a constant fight of the incline to keep the cart and my luggage, from disaster. After unloading the car, I had to move it to the lot beneath the hotel, and then walk up 2 flights of stairs, to the lobby, where I had to leave the carts with all my baggage to take up to my room. If a guest is physically handicapped, in a wheelchair or has any other physical difficulty, and drove here alone, there would be no way, AT ALL, for them to park their car and get back to the lobby of the hotel. Before I go on, let me say this; the hotel is lovely, and the young lady that checked me in, is an absolute treasure, as is the one that greeted me the following morning at 5am when I left for work. I have zero complaints in regards to the staff that I've encountered, so far, during my stay. After settling in the room, I'd experienced several issues that will assure that I will not be staying at this hotel again. My fault for not noticing upon booking, there are no microwaves in the rooms, only a refrigerator was provided in the rooms. The only microwave is on the first floor. The refrigerator does not have a temp control and froze EVERYTHING. There is a thermostat in the room that does not have a temperature control. It only has a Cold and Hot mode. I have NEVER seen anything like that!!! There is no coffee or breakfast, of any kind, provided by the hotel. No matter the great staff and attractive lobby, there are far too many other options, in the area, with far more amenities and convenience, to settle for this location.
Room and hotel very clean location was great. Parking is tight. Lavender at the front desk was wonderful. Night security needs to be more professional and identify themselves. Over all experience and price was good. I d book here again
I am going to stick with the pro/con review style, but I will start by saying that I will NOT stay at this hotel again. Pro (only 1): Location - This hotel is located in a great location. The two major plans I had while in New Orleans were to see the basketball game and visit the WWII Museum. The Smoothie King Center and the WWII Museum were both just a 20 minute walk from the hotel. It only took a few minutes to walk to Canal street and around 5-7 minutes to get to Bourbon street. Cafe Du Monde was about a 20 minute walk. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance. Cons: Staff interactions: While every interaction with hotel staff was not terrible, most of them were. My first morning of my vacation (after driving in the previous day) started at 5:20 AM with a call from the front desk saying that there was a noise complaint about my room. My son and I were both sound asleep until that phone call woke us up. I still don't know what the deal was with that, but it ruined my day. I can't go back to sleep once someone wakes me up. I was so exhausted for everything that day. I felt like I was going through the motions, instead of enjoying the experiences in New Orleans. When the staff member called that morning, and I was clearly half asleep, he was not apologetic at all. Another unacceptable interaction was when I tried to ask for my room to be cleaned. I asked the person at the front desk (I believe his name was James) if he could give me a time that they were coming to clean my room, so I could coordinate a small outing for when they would be coming. He said that he would call and have them come in 30 minutes. I went to my room, ready to head out as soon as they came to the room. After 50 minutes went by, we decided to go ahead and go out, thinking maybe they were running a little behind. When we got back, they still hadn't cleaned the room. I went down to the front desk and asked for towels and told James that they still hadn't showed up, and it had been an hour and a half. He replied that he had tried to get a hold of me to let me know that housekeeping would have to come later, but he couldn't reach me. He gave me towels/washcloths. Finally, this morning, I looked at my bank account and realized that they had charged my debit card for both the room and parking. I had asked them to charge the room to my debit card and parking to my credit card. I looked at my credit card online, and I saw that there was a charge for the parking also on the credit card (where it was supposed to be). Once I figured out that they were double charging me, I went to the front desk. The young woman at the front desk, Lavender, was nice enough, but she basically had no way to help me. She reassured me that the charge would “fall off” of my debit card. I asked to speak with a manager. She said that the front desk manager was off today, but the GM should be in sometime. I asked Lavender if she knew the exact time, and she said that it normally was around 8. I told her that we had to leave before 8. I started telling her about my experience at the hotel, and she seemed like she could not possibly care any less than she did. Finally, I told her that I could tell she does not care, and to just give me my receipt, which she did. I replied to the text message that they send at the beginning of the stay that I would like a manager to call me ASAP. Nobody ever called. I just know I'm going to have issues getting my money back, while I'm back at work. The room: While the room was a good size, and the view was nice, there was mold in the bathroom, and the air vent looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years.
My stay at the Whyntman Hotel was very pleasant and comfortable; the staff was very friendly and attentive. The only thing missing was a microwave. The rooms are spacious and have a nice view. Thank you to everyone, and this is the first time this hotel has made such a good impression on me. I'm a member, and in other states, the managers of these hotels don't seem to care about maintaining this high level of service and attention to detail.
I honestly have zero complaints about my stay. The location is perfectly in the heart of downtown and the main attractions between 5-15 minutes away walking distance. The room was clean and no bugs, thank God!!! The service was good, people good. I would 100% recommend.
