This historic, museum-adjacent hotel located just outside the French Quarter offers a chic, quiet retreat with unique charm and plenty of parking. Guests frequently praise the spacious, modern rooms and the exceptional, personalized service. However, potential concerns include significant noise disturbances due to the building's old construction, varying levels of cleanliness, and challenges with noise/light blocking in some rooms.

Room 200 is directly above the trash receptacle. We were awoken at 5am every morning by extremely loud banging noises, and unable to fall back asleep for at least a hour. We were then woken back up at 9-10 every morning because the cleaning quarters was to the other side of our room and they were just yelling on the phone or to other staff, every single morning. This was a nightmare, sleep-deprived vacation. We spent ~$800 to stay, and feel absolutely cheated. We would have rather stayed at a quiet motel 8. The room was dirty and had a hole in the ceiling. Staff was nice, yet very unhelpful. Building was cool. Location was great.

Stay: Wednesday December 17th, 2025 Price: $116.59 (one night) Room: 1 King Bed, No Window Parking - Self, $25/Night Location - It is located right at the edge of the French Quarter. It was a 10 minute walk straight down into the French Quarter and Bourbon Street. It was very quiet, and seemed reasonably safe. (The police station is across the street). Parking was abundant. There were plenty of spaces when I arrived around 6pm. During the day, it might be a little bit busier. The lobby area has a small check in area, a guided tour desk, and a nice looking cafe which is open from 9am-3pm. On the way to the elevator, there is a cool train exhibit showcasing some very cool memorabilia. On the other side is a gift shop and other exhibits. The Rooms are located on Floors 2 and 3. The key is required to access both the elevator, and once on your floor, the hallway where the rooms are located. Room 205 is a windowless room on the East side of the building. Upon entry, there is a small foyer and a small closet. The room is spacious, albeit lacking a bench which would help for luggage storage. It was very modern, clean, and a nice dark space to sleep in. There were well placed outlets bedside to charge electronics as well. It wasn’t the best soundproofing-wise, as there were times you could hear movements from other rooms. However, it wasn’t that bad all things considered it is in a very old building that wasn’t designed to be a hotel. Overall, it was more pleasant than stays I’ve had in the French Quarter and surrounding area. There was less riff-raff, parking was as easy at it gets, and the walk was actually very nice passing through some of the quieter streets in a normally rowdy area. For the price point, it was a very good deal. Any higher and I think it opens the door to look at other options.

We had a very nice stay at this hotel over Thanksgiving weekend. Bri at the front counter was super friendly and awesome. The rooms were very nice and clean. All of French Quarter was within walking distance but the hotel itself was pretty quiet at night. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely stay here again.

The hotel's location is absolutely perfect. We were able to walk to all places we wanted to visit during our trip to NOLA; so, we didn't have to rent a car. The hotel is inside a shop/museum and its vibes are very upbeat. You can also learn about and purchase all the great tours available in New Orleans. Our room was nice and clean, but the bathroom wasn't spotless.

Spent two nights here last January and even though it's been almost a year ago I would eagerly stay here again. I thought everything about it was great! The location, the staff, the decor - I enjoyed it immensely! I even liked having the various "vendors" in the lobby area. There is a gift shop, bus tour desk, cemetery tour desk and a beautiful coffee bar - it was all quite fun! My sister and I arrived on Amtrak's City of New Orleans and the hotel is just a short Lyft ride away. I cannot say enough about our stay at the Brakeman Hotel and I count it as one of the highlights of this trip. ?

I actually enjoyed my stay here overall. The hotel is in a great location — close to the French Quarter, and I felt safe since the police department is right across the street and no one can get inside the hotel without a card. The staff was kind and seemed to genuinely care, and the room looked clean when I arrived. However, I did find a beetle in my towel and, later, a roach in my bed, which was really upsetting and hard to overlook. I was otherwise comfortable and appreciated the convenience, but the pest issue definitely affected my experience.

Fantastic little hotel on the outskirts of the French Quarter. Was looking for a one-night stay as we were passing through to Texas and when I saw this place online I just couldn't pass it up. The place is built out of an old train station, and the lower level is mostly dedicated to a precious little museum. There's a café that runs til about 3pm, but we didn't get the chance to try it before heading out. Rooms are super lovely (lots of wood detailing and quirky details) and spacious, and the bathrooms are some of the largest I've had in a hotel, and the A/C is powerful for those of us who need some heavy recovery after a day in the heat. We did leave for a few hours for dinner and come back to a large number of ants on a cup of tea I meant to put in the fridge, but once I showed it to the desk clerk he had us swapped to a new room within minutes. He also immediately messaged his manager and I watched him make a maintenance ticket to have the room looked at, so the issue wasn't at all brushed off either. Overall a gorgeous little property with inexpensive rates and a genuinely very pretty overlook of the cemetery next door. Very highly recommended!

Very convenient location right next to the French quarter; next to a police station, felt super safe at night. Room is in good condition, price is slightly cheaper than other hotels inside the French quarter. Friendly and helpful staff. One minor dissatisfaction is that I found hair (not mine) and small poeces of plastic in the room and bathroom. The cleanliness of the room floor can be improved further

We stayed in one of their windowless hotel rooms and while it was certainly a novelty... It honestly wasn't that bad, the room itself was very nice and stylish and although it does feel a little odd to wake up in the mornings in the pitch black dark... it really wasn’t a big deal. We'd definitely consider booking again in the future! Loved everything about our stay!

My mother and I took a week-long trip visiting several places, with our final destination being New Orleans. We booked three nights at The Brakeman, and out of every hotel we stayed in during our vacation, this was by far our favorite. It wasn’t just the beautiful, spacious, and spotless room—it was the people. The staff went above and beyond, offering restaurant recommendations, tips on things to do, and answering every question with genuine kindness. We also appreciated how secure the hotel felt, with thoughtful safety measures that made us feel completely at ease. New Orleans now holds a special place in our hearts, and The Brakeman played a huge part in that. The warmth of the staff and the charm of this city made our stay unforgettable.
