Hotel Indigo New Orleans French Quarter offers a prime location in the heart of the French Quarter, providing easy access to attractions and nightlife. However, recent reviews highlight a noticeable shift in atmosphere compared to a traditional hotel, with reports of crowded lobbies, a party-like environment, and issues with room quality and cleanliness. Security concerns regarding elevator access have also been raised.
Let’s start with the positive. The location is great. You’re right in the heart of New Orleans with easy access to the French Quarter, restaurants, bars, and attractions. If proximity to nightlife and the action is your top priority, this hotel checks that box. However, once you walk into the property, there’s a noticeable shift in energy. The lobby was packed with large crowds constantly coming in and out. The bar area felt mobbed, more like a nightlife hotspot than a hotel lounge. There was a party like atmosphere that may appeal to some, but if you’re expecting a calm or polished hotel environment, this may catch you off guard. One thing that stood out immediately was the smell of weed smoke coming from the elevators. It wasn’t subtle. It set the tone for what the stay might feel like. From a safety perspective, the elevators do not require a key card to access guest floors. That means anyone can walk in off the street and go upstairs. In a busy city like New Orleans, that’s something travelers should be aware of, especially if security and controlled access are important to you. I’ve attached a photo of the room I booked versus the room I received. Here’s what stood out: Rust visible on the door hinges Extremely poor lighting (in the photo, every single light in the room was turned on) No real view to speak of A door closer detached from the actual door A dried substance that had previously run down the door The walls are paper thin. You can hear everything — hallway traffic, conversations, doors closing. Privacy is minimal. The bathroom is also very small. You cannot access the shower if the bathroom door is open. It’s a tight, awkward layout that doesn’t feel thoughtfully designed. I stayed in the room for no more than 10 minutes before deciding it wasn’t the right fit for me. I packed up and went to the nearby Kimpton Hotel Fontenot instead. If you have a certain standard when traveling, whether that’s cleanliness, security, or overall atmosphere, I wouldn’t personally recommend staying here. However, if you’re looking for a relatively affordable place to lay your head down after a long night of partying and you don’t plan to spend much time in the room, this may work for you. Using IHG Points? If you’re planning to use IHG points for a stay in the area, I would absolutely recommend the Kimpton just minutes away instead. The difference in atmosphere, condition, and overall experience was night and day. If you’d like more details on that property, feel free to check out my five-star review of the Kimpton.
Friendly staff, excellent service and great location. The room was really small like a dorm. It was basically a small bedroom with an even smaller bathroom and it did not have private balconies which is what I look for. Also, due to overbooking they mixed up my room and only gave me a queen when I paid for a king bed.
The hotel is not great. The location is fantastic. Stayed for 6 days and I've never slept so little in a hotel:) I understand it's the biggest party around but yikes super noisy. Had to wait 3 hours past 4pm.check in. They ran out of bottled water, the staff didn't show up to work and so there was no food or room service available. The room was falling apart. All the hooks falling off the walls. 3 towels for 4 people. Dirty ripped stained curtains lamps that didn't work. No fan in the bathroom. The AC wasn't functioning right so it was hot and stuffy and stale. The bed was comfy but tiny!
Came here for our anniversary. Short walking distance to everything…Bourbon St., casinos, shopping. Clean rooms and hospitable staff. Rooms are on the smaller side compared to other hotels but it was perfect for us. Sofa, desk, bed, coffee table, end tables with USB ports. Small bathroom with full size roomy shower.
All the staff members & doorman were pleasant, especially Alicia! The hotel is a prefect location to French Quarter. It’s surrounded by convenient stores & restaurants. I loved the decor of the hotel; from the lobby, the hallway & my room. My room was clean & had plenty of towels. Breakfast was great!!! Oh, I loved the security after hours. You must use your hotel key card to enter the hotel. I would definitely stay again & I highly recommend!
Being that this was affordable and down the street from bourbon, I had to choose this spot. Forgot to take pictures of the room but it's like any standard room you stay at. They do have a bar that serves food up to a specific time. Do have to pay for breakfast vouchers if you're trying to eat something in the morning. Overall it was a solid spot to stay at and where it's located is very convenient.
Excellent location for exploring the French Quarter! Bourbon Street is literally across the street. The king window room was clean and nicely decorated, if small. The valet service is nice if you plan on driving daily but it is pricey; if you plan to park once and walk around every day, take the time to find a cheaper daily lot. There are at least 2 within a 5 minute walk of the hotel.
After driving 8 hours, the locations was great. However, the room is definitely on the smaller side. Compared to what they had online, some of the staff was great. However, There was one in particular person. That seems to have a very sassy attitude that was not appreciated by me, however, I never complain, but the fact that it was noticed by my teenage daughter was very disheartening.
We stayed here for two nights to see NOLA before taking off on a carnival cruise. The staff are wonderful. Moe and Grant took extra special care of us. The lobby staff were great as well as the housekeeping staff. Our room was pristine. Not a single speck or evidence of other guests before us. The food was delicious and happy hour was well worth the price. The hotel is updated and feels more homey than a regular hotel. I would stay here again. I gave them 14 out of 15 stars only because one of our two beds in need of replacing. Thanks for a great experience!
We have reservations that are non-refundable. We also just got home from the doctor with positive Influenza A test results for myself, my wife, and my son. We attempted to move the reservations to a different date, and agreed to pay a higher fee. The manager denied our request to move the reservation and will charge us for the rooms regardless. We are seriously considering riding out this nasty virus in the hotel maskless and touching everything...I can't think of much else that matches the rude and inconsiderate attitude of the management of this hotel. You can look through my long Google review history and see that I don't leverage the feedback and almost always take the time to review only when our experience is positive. As Saints season tickets holders we will never book this hotel again, and make sure that everyone knows why.
