Guests rave about Hotel Royal’s charming historic atmosphere and unbeatable location in the French Quarter, calling it an authentic New Orleans experience. However, the experience is divided by feedback on bathroom cleanliness in older rooms and several 1-star incidents where management failed to address maintenance or refund issues, particularly during recent stays.
Beautiful hotel with great staff. Only issues- water pressure was low and hot water was scarce. Also, there’s no elevator so if they don’t put you on the ground floor, climbing all of those steps with luggage is tough.
Really loved our stay here, great staff, great location. Love Royal street, the hotel is very old and historic so take that into account when booking. If youre looking for the newest everything this isn't your hotel. But if you want authentic, historic, French quarter vibes then this is your place. Booked a king balcony room and loved it.
The location is perfect for both partygoers and those who appreciate a quieter surrounding. This hotel is in Royal Street which is parallel to Bourbon Street where the bars are located. It was safe walking around even at night checking out small shops showcasing different artworks like paintings, jewelries, photography, clothes, antique items, and other unique souvenirs. The hotel is within walking distance of must-see attractions and restaurants, and conveniently close to the first bus stop and ticket office for the Hop-on-hop-off bus tour, which made sightseeing incredibly easy. Perry and Macy at the front desk were absolutely amazing! They truly went above and beyond to accommodate my needs and were incredibly helpful even with things that weren't technically part of their job. Their service made a big difference in my stay. The bathroom in my room was smaller than expected, and for some reason, there was no safe in my room. The hotel had rooms up to the fourth floor, and there isn't any elevator. I guess you'd just have to inform them ahead of time if you have trouble walking up the stairs so that they can find a room for you on the ground floor or the second floor at least. Aside from those issues, everything else was great, and I had a wonderful experience overall.
This location was 5-10mins from everything we wanted to see and do (5*). At the time of booking I was unwavering of the "The Originals-TV series" was filmed at the location. We chose this hotel because of the jacuzzi tub. The price was fair but wanted a more of a relaxing soak after our cruise. The bathroom was not cleaned! We advised front desk staff (3*)who tried to help as much as possible (seeing that the cleaning staff had left for the day). The bathroom had hair everywhere. The tub was DIRTY! The front desk staff attempted to clean the bathroom on 2 separate occasions that evening without using a drop of water as well as leaving hair still visible in the shower and on the floors (see attached pictures). The walls are so thin we could hear everything going on outside and inside the hotel. The windows were boarded shut and locked (1*) We have tried to reach management during and after our stay. 5times with no call back/ return email.
The hotel itself is beautiful and the location is perfect. Unfortunately the shower did not have hot or even warm water. I was told the boilers were on and to run the sink at the same time. This did not remedy the problem. Frigid showers are truly awful. I would not recommend this hotel to others.
Room was a little small, and parking is pretty messed up. But the place is really nice. What made it great and deserving of the 5 stars was the 2 people I came in contact with from the front desk. 1 lady that I didnt catch her name, but she was extremely nice and even offered to hold open the 2 doors to let me in with my luggage (i had alot). The other was Perry. He was always in a great mood, no matter the time. He held great conversations, and had great customer service. I cant say anything bad about them at all.
I had to update my review as it has been next to impossible to get ahold of the Manager. I was told to contact Expedia to initiate a claim since we paid for a Superior room and downgraded to Deluxe since they didn't have a superior room availabe for the entire length of our stay. I have been told by 3 front desk associates that the manager just needs to approve the request from Expedia. The manager has not acted on any requests from Expedia. I have called, emailed, spoke to front desk associates and the manager has not contacted me at all. I am now resorting to this. Nice property and friendly Front desk staff. The manager however does not care about concerns and has not been available. We had a few hiccups with our stay, but one of the Concierge made our stay great! I didn't catch his name, but he works the mid shift. He was so friendly, fun and accommodating to our requests. I travel very often and I would say he was one of the best concierge I have ever encountered! He truly made us feel welcome!
The location of the Hotel is great. It was expected to have the old charm of a nice hotel but it did lack in most areas pictures are absolutely misleading when booking. "I recommend adding a note on the booking page indicating that significant walking and stair use are required to access most rooms. Having had knee surgery earlier this year, the uneven pathways and staircases proved difficult to manage." "Upon arrival, we were first informed that there was no available parking for guests, and then advised that parking was available only at an additional $45 per day."
The staff was always helpful, inviting and engaging. Its an old historic building so expect old plumbing, loud wood flooring, etc. It was only a 2 block walk in any direction to get to all the action; shopping, bars, food.. no need for transportation. The coffee shop "CC" across the street was a nice stop every morning.
Lots of fun if you want to stay in a piece of history! Great bathroom, comfortable bed. The coffee maker and coffee int eh rooms is the worst I have ever experienced, but that doesn't matter to me- get out and sight see! They were happy to store our bags after check out when we had time to kill. Just lovely friendly helpful staff. A definite recommend. Prepare for stairs, a couple flights.
