The Courtyard by Marriott New Orleans French Quarter/Iberville offers a prime location within walking distance of the French Quarter and Bourbon Street, boasting comfortable rooms and friendly service. However, guests have reported issues with cleanliness, inconsistent service, and unexpected fees or policies, ranging from room entry procedures to water availability and baggage handling.
I have very mixed feelings about this hotel because this was supposed to be a relaxing weekend getaway. I’m a Marriott member and used my points to book the stay. The valet service and early check-in were both great, so the stay started off on a positive note. However, while I was out sightseeing, the hotel manager called me saying they needed to enter my room because a previous guest had supposedly left a watch on the couch. I found this situation very strange because I assumed the room had already been thoroughly cleaned and inspected before I checked in. If a cleaning staff member had properly cleaned the room, wouldn’t they have noticed a watch left on the couch? I told the manager that no one should enter my room until I returned because I had my suitcase open and personal belongings out. When I came back, I never received another call, so I’m still not sure whether anyone entered my room or not. Either way, it made me uncomfortable. I was really hoping that would be the end of the issues, but later that afternoon, I received a letter saying that the water would not be available after 11 PM. I honestly thought, “Are you kidding me?” ? Who showers and gets ready for bed before 11 PM when you're visiting New Orleans for a weekend getaway? Most people are out sightseeing, having dinner, enjoying drinks, and coming back late. Having no water after 11 PM was extremely inconvenient. The next morning, before heading back home, I wanted to leave my luggage at the hotel while I went to lunch. I asked the receptionist if they could hold my luggage at the concierge desk until I returned. Instead of simply explaining the policy, she gave me an attitude and told me there was no such service and that I should leave it with the valet. Overall, this was probably the most inconvenient Marriott hotel experience I’ve had so far... As a Marriott member, I expected a smoother and more comfortable experience.
Wonderful hotel, perfect location and exceptional staff. It's a 5 min. walk to Bourbon and Canal Street but much quieter. All the staff were very helpful for anything we needed; especially Shaleta, she is very kind, professional and truly knowledgeable. She has all the details on the best restaurants and activities around the French Quarter. She shared that the hotel has special access to The Ritz Carlton and you're able to enjoy live jazz music at their lounge. Our room was very nice and comfortable. We received an upgrade to a king bed for our teen son. I love that it has a door between the living room area and the bedroom, so parents can have a little "privacy". The bathroom was clean and I loved the rainfall shower head! Although, you must moisturize afterwards because the water dried out my skin. I also appreciate that this hotel has a laundry room on each floor. The N'Orleans heat had us changing our clothes quite frequently so it was great to be able to wash all of our clothes before we left. The hotel also has a Starbucks on site. It's pricey, but convenient. We left very early for a day trip to Baton Rouge and was pleased that we were able to grab something quick to take with us. I love that they add a mini fruit cup with every breakfast sandwich we ordered. A small but delightful gesture. Overall, we had an amazing trip! 5 years ago, we stayed at this hotel and will certainly choose this hotel the next time we visit NOLA! P.S. The hotel's signature scent is so divine, it's somewhat therapeutic after an exhausting and eventful day! Another thing, if you need a ride to and from the airport, the hotel can connect you with, A.D., a private driver. He will get you where you need to go and he's much more reasonable than rideshare and nicer too! ?
I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience at this hotel warrants one. During my stay, the hotel experienced a power outage that lasted approximately 12 hours. While I understand that utility outages can happen and may be beyond a hotel’s control, what was most disappointing was how the situation was handled. The hotel’s backup generator also failed, leaving guests without electricity, air conditioning, running water, functioning toilets, showers, ice, and elevator service. As a guest staying on the seventh floor, I had to repeatedly climb seven flights of stairs in the dark. The hotel remained without adequate lighting for hours, creating what I considered to be an unsafe environment. Communication throughout the ordeal was minimal, and there appeared to be little concern for the inconvenience and discomfort experienced by guests. When I sought assistance, Operations Manager Sean Crawford informed me that General Manager Austin Westbrook had decided that no compensation would be provided to guests despite the significant loss of essential services. I recognize that hotels cannot prevent every emergency. However, they can control how they respond to guests during those emergencies. In this case, I found the lack of empathy, communication, and willingness to make things right to be far more disappointing than the power outage itself. This is my go to hotel while in New Orleans and I have stayed there several times over the years as well as referred many friends and family to this location. But now I have to rethink if I’ll ever go back and I definitely cannot refer anyone to a place that doesn’t appears to not care about its guests. I have always associated Marriott with quality customer service and accountability. Unfortunately, this experience fell well below those expectations. I hope Marriott reviews how this incident was handled so future guests receive the level of care and professionalism they deserve.
What you need to know: housekeeping will STILL enter your room when you are not there, even if the Do Not Disturb sign is out! I stayed for a week and had the Do Not Disturb sign out the entire stay. One of the days I returned in the evening, only to find one long, stray, black hair right in the middle of my bathroom floor! I have short, blond hair. So explain that? I get they may have to come in briefly to inventory water bottle consumption, but they shouldn't even really do that, if you have indicated DO NOT ENTER. To me that means stay out of the room, right? Also the water is in the couch area, so why did they need to go into my bathroom? Had I not read these other reviews before I got here, I would've had a very hard time locating the check-in desk. It's on the 2nd floor, paired with an elevator that's for a completely different hotel: the Ritz-Carlton. Even the elevator to leave, is hard to find. There's not good signage. The Bonvoy app and the reservation confirmation email, do not explain check-in location well at all! Just hard to navigate this building's unintuitive layout. I did check-in via the app, so didn't need to stop at the desk, but when I walked by, the lady had her nose in her phone and didn't even look up nor acknowledge me. Later it was improved, as I would walk past to exit, an employee would say "have a nice time!," which was appreciated. The bed was extremely comfortable. I liked the effective blackout blind. There is no restaurant. And it would be a nightmare for any food delivery service to try to be able to find you (vis a vis the front desk), anyway. Luckily there are PLENTY of walkable, excellent options starting at only one block away. Might I recommend Killer Po'boys for an EXCELLENT roast beef debris, dressed. It was so amazing; I'm still thinking about it all the way from Texas. Hotel spaces were clean and well-kept, overall. If you are doing phone app check-in (keyless), be ready for the app to get hung-up, and you're "locked out" of your room and have to get a plastic key, anyway, which the faulty app is not the hotel's fault, but I was standing there with a heavy handful of hot to-go food, unable to get into my 9th floor room, without having to go ALL THE WAY back from where I had just been on 2! The coffee place, I never saw it open, once. It closes at an unreasonably early hour of like 10:30AM. The balconies in the lobby are locked and off-limits, with a sign pretending "construction in progress." I was there 7 days and never saw any work being done. This should be disclosed up front. Don't have pictures advertising balconies that cannot be accessed. Do go to the Davenport Lounge, connected in the Ritz! It was an exceptional experience! The dimly lit, live jazz atmosphere is "old money," yet the prices are not outrageous, but comparable to other nearby dining. Service was impeccable. It was like being transported to a 1940s supper club. Very cozy, very cush, would make a TERRIFIC special occasion celebration spot! Overall, an okay stay at the hotel. Location was IDEAL! Otherwise, nothing spectacular here.
As a family of 4, we stayed in the king beds suite and the layout was perfect for us! Kids had their own side of the room with the bathroom separating the sleeping areas. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. We used the valet service and it was easy getting in and out for our day trips-they were quick!
We stayed here for jazz fest 2026. The hotel and room itself were very clean and tidy. Staff were friendly. We arrived at least 3 hours before check in thinking we would just drop off our bags but they actually had a room ready for us that met our room requests (higher floor, away from elevator). This hotel is easy walking distance to all the French quarter sites but is far enough away from bourbon st that you won’t be bothered by the noise at night! The room layout is great especially if you have a snoring sleep partner - there’s a sliding door to separate bedroom from living room/couch area.
The hotel is very well located—just one block from Bourbon Street. The room was spacious, comfortable, and overall very pleasant. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was large, and there was even a cozy sitting area. However, I did have a few issues during my stay. I requested early housekeeping service, but when we returned at 3 PM, the room still hadn’t been cleaned. We were traveling with a service dog, and occasionally had to leave him in the room for a couple of hours, so having the room cleaned earlier was important to us. I also want to mention something about the check-in experience. I understand this may be partly cultural, but when we arrived, the two women at the front desk didn’t greet us and barely spoke to us throughout the process. Instead, they were engaged in a conversation with each other about some expensive drinks they had purchased—laughing and chatting about something completely unrelated to their work. This felt unprofessional, as basic customer service expectations were not met. Lastly, I found it a bit surprising that for a stay costing around $1,000 for four nights, the hotel didn’t provide even a single complimentary bottle of water. It seems like a small and inexpensive gesture that would go a long way in improving the guest experience. Overall, the location and room comfort are great, but the service could definitely be improved.
Id say you get what you pay for, but we actually paid quite a bit for this room. The shower and sink were both not draining. I was standing in water up to my ankles im the shower, which is quite disgusting in a hotel. When I went down to ask if we could get it looked at, they told me maintenance would fix. However, when we got back to our room that night, not only had maintenance not been there, but neither had housekeeping. Luckily, it was only a 2 night stay, so we checked out the next morning.
I was really happy with my stay here. The price was very affordable. We loved how large our room was (we loved that it was a suite with a separate bedroom/living area). The snack area was nice to have, as was the restaurant. A huge plus was that the hotel was connected to the Ritz Carlton; we were in town for a convention at the Ritz, and it was a huge bonus that we could go back and forth without having to walk outside. We felt that the hotel was very well-decorated, and really liked the color schemes. Everything was clean and the bed was comfortable. The heating unit worked well. We also had great experience with all of the staff members we interacted with. The location was perfect, too - walking distance from tons of great restaurants and Jackson Square! This is definitely our go-to in New Orleans now.
We had such a pleasant stay at the Courtyard by Marriott French Quarter. Our room and bathroom were big enough with lots of room to move around. The room was cleaned quickly and thoroughly daily. The location is great, walking distance from anywhere in the French Quarter but tucked along a quiet street. The front desk staff were incredibly kind and gracious the whole time. One night I had a big fall on Bourbon Street (I’m sure they happens quite a bit) that I didn’t realize cut me pretty deep until I was back at the hotel. I called the front desk at 1am to see if they had bandaids/first aid equipment and they brought up some bandaids and alcohol wipes within a few minutes. That was a nice gesture and so convenient, I was prepared to change again to run to a CVS nearby but they saved me that trip. We would for sure book this hotel again for a future trip to New Orleans.
