This historic hotel offers a prime location and consistently praised hospitality, but guests frequently complain about noisy bathrooms, dated infrastructure, and inconsistent housekeeping standards.
According to Expedia, I’ve stayed at over 35 properties throughout the Americas, and I can say with all my heart that the New Orleans Marriott has the best staff members I’ve ever encountered. Ms. Jerkyra (I hope I’m spelling her name correctly) checked us in, and she truly set the tone for our entire stay. She greeted us with the warmest smile, reconfirmed all the details of our reservation, and took her time walking us through every perk of the property. She explained the complimentary tour available at the Sazerac House, shared details about credits we could use with the concierge toward booking excursions, and gave us a full lay of the property. It never felt rushed — just genuine hospitality at its finest. I had originally booked a standard king room, but at check-in we were upgraded to a river-view room on the 35th floor. The views were stunning! To top it off, the culinary staff surprised us with chocolate-covered strawberries and a bottle of prosecco — such a thoughtful and unexpected touch. The property itself was beautiful and impeccably maintained — not a single piece of trash in sight. The location couldn’t be better. It’s within walking distance of what feels like hundreds of restaurants and bars, and just about a four-minute “skip and a bop” to Bourbon Street. I’m already planning my next trip to NOLA, and I will absolutely be staying at the New Orleans Marriott again. Such a pleasant, memorable experience from start to finish!
We stayed here for Mardis Gras and they did such a great job. In the lobby every morning they had beignets being made fresh and a bloody Mary bar. They are right on the tail end of most parades. They give you masks and beads as a gift. They kept the hotel very calm and controlled too. The hotel bar had an excellent king cake daquiris that was perfect. Room was quiet and clean and comfortable. Beds were amazing. So cozy and comfy.
Just want to give a little rave about this hotel. The room service was fabulous and hella affordable compared to the last couple Marriotts I've stayed at. The snack store was perfectly stocked, and I'm picky. The mocktails at the lobby bar were the best I've had. The location on the Mardi Gras parade route was perfection, just so incredibly convenient to watch from the window or run inside for the bathroom. They used a wristband system to restrict the lobby to just guests, which was a polished and thoughtful way to keep the hotel enjoyable. I loved every minute of my stay here. Now a bit on service - I was a difficult guest - I checked in at midnight and asked for a room with a parade view. Then in the morning, I asked if I could check a new room because of a cigarette smell in the first one. At their busy checkout time, a bell hop got me up to a new room just one floor off my prior one - without me even asking for the same view - and it smelled great. This really stood out, and every other interaction with service workers was equally supportive professional, and helpful. Just great staff all around!
A lovely hotel. I was in the River Tower which has wonderful views. My room was bright and very clean. I was here for a conference, and as a conference venue, this was top notch. The catered meals were amazing with lovely plating. The dietary restriction accommodations were very high quality. This hotel would also be great for those wanting to visit downtown.
Good location, however I was extremely disappointed with the subtle noise of the elevator all night long. Also, had to take a shower early in the morning and the bathtub was clogged, with no time for people to come and fix it. The coffee tray had 3 bags of coffee and 1 pack of sugar/cream. What am I supposed to do with the 2 left over? Very mediocre service if you ask me. Set temp to 75 but room wouldn’t go above 70 degrees, kept blowing cold air so I turned it off, had a cold and uncomfortable night due to this.
Bring earplugs if you’re a light sleeper. Being right on Canal Street is super convenient and puts you in the middle of everything, but the party really does go all night, and even from the 35th floor I could hear it (bless). Things I loved about this hotel: - Comfortable mattress, pillows, and linens. - Excellent climate control. - Great view from my river room. - Nice amenities, including a solid hotel bar. - Top-notch conference spaces. - Clean and very centrally located. - Lots of soft, downward lighting in the room, which made it feel relaxed and homey after long days out. Accessibility note: The main entrance on Canal Street has stairs only. I did not see a ramp at that entrance, so guests using wheelchairs or mobility aids may need to ask about alternative access points. A great place to stay if you want to be in the heart of the action and still come back to a comfortable, well-run hotel.
We stayed here during Christmas, and unfortunately the experience was very disappointing. The shower did not provide hot water, we had to wait at least 30 minutes for it to warm up, and on the first day I was forced to take a cold shower. A few days later, I got sick, which I believe was related to this. I’ve honestly never had this issue before, even at basic motels. We reported the problem to reception, but nothing was done to resolve it. On top of that, there was loud drilling noise coming from the next room early in the mornings, waking us up with headaches. This made it impossible to rest. The only positives were the good location and a comfortable bed. However, these do not make up for the overall poor experience. I would not recommend staying here.
The New Orleans Marriott was a convenient place to stay for us since it's situated right outside the French Quarter and Bourbon Street. You can easily walk to any destination within those areas, and it has convenient access to the streetcar which we took to the Garden District. Building is nice as well as it is two towers with rooms like ours that have views of the river and French Quarter. The other side has a view of the city below. We also had the M Club and loved there are snacks 24/7 and are able to enjoy the breakfast with other guests at the buffet. Shoutout to the cooks who prepare the great foods! They could improve upon customer service, though. When we checked in, the first room they gave us was not turned over. We went back down and the person who changed our room did not apologize for the inconvenience nor offer us anything to make up for the mishap. Additionally, we returned the other day from a day of sightseeing and our room was not made up, even though we requested for housekeeping during our stay. I called and there was no apology, even though they sent someone up to clean our room. While I did enjoy New Orleans, I probably would not stay here again. The hotel did live up to some aspects of the hype, but there are areas I listed above they could focus on for me to give them a 5/5.
The whole place is dated and run down. Wallpaper is torn up all over, with holes and scrapes everywhere. The carpet is way torn up down the hall ways. The lobby seating is worn out, dark and dungeon. The entire lobby is dark and out dated. The showers are old, the toilet is missing parts and the water in the tank is extremely low. The whole place needs a face lift. It pales in comparison to the Marriott across the street. However, the mattress is soft, the air conditioner works, and is quiet. However, Netflix won't sign in on the regular because their network won't connect as it should.
After the stay: I called on the second day and they switched rooms. Service was good, they cleaned the rooms daily, I used gym and it was only a few minutes walk to the conference center as well as Burboun street and french quarter. Although the first night wasn’t good but as soon as I called they switched rooms. The reservation was under my friend’s name who checked in on Saturday and I arrived on Monday. I would say it was a good experience. Just hope they would pit water in the rooms with daily service. Worst experience. We booked an 8-night stay and are in town for a conference. The heater in our room is not working despite freezing temperatures. I contacted the front desk three times and was told maintenance was unavailable. Their only solution was extra blankets. For a hotel charging over $200 per night, this is unacceptable. No room change, no portable heater, and no real attempt to fix the issue. Very disappointing. Stay away for your own sake.
