Okay... so the rooms I'm sure are fantastic. We, however, only leveraged the AMAZING parking garage. When we pulled in, we had the obvious look of out-of-towners. Joe (our amazing valet attendant) indicated where we could park to start our service. We rolled our window down and he said "where you parked is perfect." He was genuinely interested in our visit, and wanted us to get the most out of it. I was there with my family (6 of us) and so he had recommendations and directions like a repositioned concierge. I can't say enough positive things. The story continues! My kids couldn't hang in the heat for more than 2.5 hours so my wife and I headed back feeling pretty defeated and disappointed to be near the end of our New Orleans adventure. So we thought... The Amazing Joe pulled up with our van before we even reached the bottom of the ramp of the valet garage. I was shocked, to say the least. I asked, "how did you know we were back already?" To which he replied with the best smile, "a magician never reveals his secret!" His awesomeness didn't stop there. He could see my wife and I's disappointed face to be done so soon and after explaining the heat being the issue he offered us places we could visit for indoor adventures or really cool cemeteries we could drive through in the comfort of our van. Joe made this exchange with the Royal Sonesta (and honestly, New Orleans) the experience we wanted by just being his amazing self. The Royal Sonesta is truly lucky to have him.

If you’re looking for a great spot to stay on Bourbon Street, look no further than Royal Sonesta. My wife and I stayed for 4 days and had a great experience. The staff was very pleasant and the nearby connected jazz club, coffee place and restaurant (very pricey) were a nice touch to add to an already great location. I’ve never stayed at a place that had bellmen and doormen so that was kinda cool. Special shoutout to doorman Caleb, he was very personable and social, all while greeting guests with a boisterous, “Welcome to the Royal Sonesta!” When exiting their vehicles. I interacted in passing with the bellmen and they were always nice and sociable with guests as well. It really felt different than your normal hotel because it seemed like the staff went out of their way to make you feel welcome and that was a huge plus. The only reason I gave 4/5 for the location is that it can be noisy in the evening depending on where your room is due to vehicle and foot traffic on Bourbon. We had a room facing Bienville St so it wasn’t as loud, but there was a club 3 floors below us that you could hear everyone and a while along with passing vehicles bumping their stereos. A good sound machine or sound machine app really helped and the beds were comfy so I had no real trouble falling asleep. The outdoor pool is also nice, but it’s a little small and the chairs can fill up fast so choose your time wisely as they close at sunset. Thus, I would definitely stay here again, it’s close to everything, you’re only 5 blocks north of the riverfront and the vibe is fun (as is the people watching ?).

An amazing hotel and an amazing experience. Right as we entered the amazing doorman Caleb welcomed us very endearingly. All the staff we met were incredible and very nice. Pool was relaxing, room was clean, and location was perfect. Hoping to be back soon!

We had a wonderful stay at the Royal Sonesta l. I didn’t know what to expect; but this hotel and experience exceeded in all areas. Rooms and beds super clean and comfortable. Interior balcony double room was quiet at night and such a great experience. The breakfast at Desire was delicious and the servers there are lovely! The pool at the Sonesta is very clean and a great vibe. The bartenders there are great! Jamie served us multiple days and was super kind and had good recommendations for local music. He and The other bartender, Demarco served us in the jazz lounge as well. What an amazing show! And the drinks they made were so delightful! April at the front desk was super informative and helpful. Caleb the door man is such an amazing human! Thanks so much for the great vacation! I’ll be back ?

Doorman staff is unbelievably friendly. Got to the hotel and the front desk told me my room was ready, but if I wanted to go into it two hours early it would cost me 50$. At this point I feel like they are really trying for every penny of my money. Quoted a room rate of 728$ for the weekend, the rate some how went up 200$? Plus the 300$ for incidentals. Which I still don’t have back. Room was clean, tv never worked properly, shower was a slow drip. Also something was wrong with the bartender at the Jazz club, he was probably the most impolite person I have seen in a minute. Went to the lower end seafood restaurant at the hotel for dinner mid at very best. Honestly the only thing that saved this place for me was the door person staff. They were completely accommodating and great.

Very nice appointments and location of you want to be in the middle of it all. Pool and courtyards allow you to escape the madness that is Bourbon St. Staff are excellent and there's actually daily room cleaning (that most hotels have abandon in some form or another). It's just the noise factor you'll have to deal with if you don't book the right room.

From the moment we stepped out of our vehicle the DOORMAN helped us and I absolutely loved his energy! The entire stay was absolutely perfect! Our balcony view was PERFECT! Best birthday trip for my husband ever!

We reserved and paid for a room with a balcony facing Bourbon Street months before arriving. We were first checked into a room that had no balcony and was facing a brick wall. We went back to the front desk providing photo copies of our reservation information. We were informed that room was not available and ended up with a room that had a walkout shared patio facing the courtyard. Thinking we would get some type of discount or money back or credit at the end of our stay, we got an extra $85.00 charge for about 8 different destination fees instead.

We had a great overall stay at The Royal Sonesta. The location is unbeatable — right on Bourbon Street. Our balcony was the highlight of the trip. We loved listening to live jazz across the street throughout the evening. It truly felt like an authentic New Orleans experience. The room was spacious and comfortable. The coffee shop downstairs was convenient, and the jazz bar inside the hotel was excellent. Overall, the atmosphere of the property is lively and memorable. There were minor signs of wear in the room (one drawer was missing part of the bottom), but nothing major. The only negative experience occurred at checkout. We went to the front desk around 7:30 a.m. to request a late checkout and were told noon was approved (only and hour more which was more than fine) and that no further action was needed. However, around 11:01 a.m., a staff member dressed in all pink knocked on our door and instructed us to leave immediately. When we explained we had been granted a 12 p.m. checkout, she stated the information was incorrect and that we needed to vacate right away. There was no apology or acknowledgment of the miscommunication. A second staff member later contacted us and acknowledged there had been a mix-up. During that conversation, she referred to the earlier approval as “psychotic,” which was surprising to hear from hotel staff about an internal communication issue. While we understand Mardi Gras is an extremely busy time and events create pressure, the tone and internal lack of coordination felt unprofessional. As a U.S. veteran, I’ve stayed in many hotels and understand policies and event logistics. We were not upset about leaving — only about the way it was handled after being told otherwise. The rushed interaction and tone left us feeling uncomfortable at the end of what had otherwise been a wonderful stay. Overall, the location and balcony experience were exceptional. With better internal communication and more professional handling of guest interactions, this would easily be a five-star stay.

My wife and I stayed here this past weekend and had a great experience. The location can’t be beaten - directly on Bourbon. Surprisingly, we heard little to nothing of the outside noise while sleeping. The rooms are a little dated, but very clean and quite functional! The AC/Heater may be the most responsive HVAC we’ve ever encountered from any of our travels - worldwide. The real stars, however, were the staff! …a special shout-out to Malcolm who helped up with our bags with a smile and was available to help us with anything the entire weekend. Another shout-out goes to Caleb, who made getting transportation easy and painless. Both of these gentlemen went over and beyond to ensure that their guests received a premium experience. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
