Maison St. Charles is a culturally rich hotel located just outside the French Quarter, praised for its convenient location on the St. Charles Streetcar line and its maze-like, historical charm. Guests consistently applaud the friendly and attentive staff, though experiences with specific front desk personnel can be inconsistent, and there are occasional complaints regarding cleanliness and amenities.
The front desk staff were great. The rooms are clean and comfortable. I was on the first floor right next to the pool. Only issue was kids screaming in the pool at 8am woke me up. Would prefer pool opened at 9am with many rooms so close to the pool.
We stayed 3 nights right before the Mardi Gras started, were lucky. I like how the rooms are very clean, floors are clean, only the toilet need a little repair; water tank couldn’t be refilled properly. Our room is facing the pool and the view at night is nice. We took the king bed, it has fridge, microwave, safety box, iron & ironing table and other standard amenities. It is a unique hotel, very local, i like the settings of the rooms in the property it feels like a maze, it has a few parking spots inside the property, but the gate to the street was never closed during our stay. there was a security guard every day but when I came back at 1am no one was there. we’ve got $25 rate per night, which is the cheapest amongst other chained hotels. Entrance to the lobby is tricky to find, just slow down on St. Charles avenue when you’re approaching, there is only 1 lane for 1 car. 1st day receptionist was nice, professional and helpful. 2nd day receptionist kept talking on the phone while I was in front of her waiting for minutes and as soon as my husband appeared next to me she stopped and asked my husband “can i help you?” Completely ignoring me. Which I found extremely rude! That same morning we decided to have breakfast in the hotel ($14 / person) when we enter the dining room, 2 staffs were there but one of them looks so lazy she didn’t even reply to our “Good Morning..” greet. Apart from these 2 all other staffs were nice & helpful.
I thought I'd leave a review because this hotel had mixed feedback, and we almost decided not to stay. We visited with my parents and our three kids the weekend before Mardi Gras. The hotel is cute and has character. The rooms could have been cleaner, but they were acceptable. The service was good and friendly, which is more than you might say for some other hotels in the area. Parking is located on site right behind the main building. Just be aware that it costs $25 per day and increases to $50 per day on parade days. We were able to find street parking one of the days. There’s a good restaurant right next door, and plenty of shops and things to see within walking distance. Overall, I think it was good for the price we got, especially during a busy weekend *Bonus tip: If you’re visiting for the parades and aren’t a local — or don’t enjoy being pushed and shoved — you might want to skip the Mystic Krewe of Femme Fatale parade. Aside from that, we had a great time at the other parades. The area felt relatively “chill,” and people were respectful. I hope this helps!
At about 3pm, we were finally able to check-in at Maison Saint Charles Hotel New Orleans ($110 SGD for the night). At the lobby of the hotel, you’ll be able to replenish on water, tea and coffee. The room itself was spacious and TV had most of the favourite channels – especially HGTV and History Channel for pickers. The only downside in the room was that the hot water was more like warm water. Since the swimming pool was in front of us and the storm had not yet approached, we took a short swim in it. The water was warm... For the full review and details of our 5 months Round The World (RTW) travels, visit 2bearbear today!
Enjoyed our stay here! Staff were super friendly and helpful, the bed (while kinda tall for me) was very comfortable, there was a small refrigerator and microwave in the room, and the location is PERFECT (short street car ride or walk to everywhere and the street car stops right out front). I'm giving it 4/5 for two reasons: (1) the bathroom really needed a couple towel bars and a second hook so as not to have to drape towels over doors to dry; and, (2) the door that connected to the room next door did not lock very well and had clearly been pried open at some point (we just pushed the dresser in front of it for peace of mind). But honestly, overall great stay!
Upon entering our assigned room, we found that the television was already on and the room was extremely dark, with very limited lighting, only a floor lamp in the corner and a small table lamp under the TV. There was an additional lamp near the bed, however there were no nearby plug points to use it. The room also lacked basic amenities such as a phone, alarm clock, or charging port near the bed. This was particularly frustrating as the other family traveling with us had these facilities in their room. When we raised this concern at the front desk, we were informed that some rooms have these amenities and others do not. We requested a room change, which was granted, though the interaction felt reluctant. Unfortunately, the second room was equally dark, even during the daytime. One of the primary reasons we chose your hotel was to enjoy the hot tub facilities. Regrettably, none of the spa jets were functioning, which meant our children were unable to enjoy the experience and were left simply sitting in the tub. In addition to these issues, the overall upkeep of the property appeared poor. The water in the fountain was milky white, giving the impression that it had not been properly cleaned for an extended period of time. I would also like to address our interaction with the night receptionist, who was dismissive when we approached her with our concerns. Upon further discussion, she mentioned that she was working three shifts and had left her children to do so, and she eventually apologized. While I empathize with her situation, this does not excuse the unprofessional conduct we experienced as guests. The following morning, the receptionist and a manager were polite and helpful, and I appreciate their professionalism. However, positive interactions with a few staff members are not enough to outweigh the overall experience, and unfortunately, we would not choose to stay again based on this visit. This stay fell far below the standard we expected, and I felt it was important to bring these matters to your attention so they can be addressed for future guests.
My partner and I stayed here while visiting New Orleans for our anniversary. While here we had an issue with our room, and I was floored by the staff, especially the manager Brett, and their eagerness to remedy the situation and make our stay exceptional. When we presented the issue, they wasted no time at all in making things right, and I have no doubt that they genuinely take pride in their hospitality. We stayed in one of their suites, and I highly recommend for great service, solid location, and a taste of luxury.
This place a true gem to stay at during our first time in New Orleans! This boutique style hotel was very clean, all the staff was INCREDIBLY friendly, helpful, and just an all around pleasure to converse with. If you are looking for a hotel that looks perfect and has the cold upscale feel, this isn’t for you. But if you want a family friendly, clean, top notch service hotel, this is for you! The hot tub was fabulous. The pillow top bed was super comfy. We also felt very safe and cared for during our stay.
The location is excellent just outside of the French Quarter, but with the streetcar at the doorstep it takes 5 minutes to get there. The reception staff (Terryal and Keywanda) were helpful with checking us in early and calling us cabs when needed. We booked through Expedia and there is a discrepancy with what is stated on Expedia versus the suite we got. E.g. I booked the junior suite and my confirmation states the bedroom is a seperate room from the lounge, however this was not the case with the room we got. Had this been clearer I would've booked the cheaper standard room instead. Also there is no longer laundry service onsite. Just a note to update room descriptions on other sites. The breakfast was average but the pool and hot tub were great.
We went to NOLA for this Halloween weekend. The employees were very helpful with good attitude. Parking was $25 as expected and Security guard was always walking around on duty. Coffee was tasty! Restaurants were close by. Street car picked us up and dropped us off in front of hotel, as did uber! Great experience! We even got a story about hotel being haunted by front desk night clerk. No complaints here! Thank you!
