Located in a charming quiet corner of the Garden District, this historic boutique hotel is praised for its beautiful architecture, very comfortable beds, and warm, knowledgeable staff. Guests particularly enjoy the cozy Indoor Parlor for cocktails and the generous free breakfast pastries, though some note a lack of in-room coffee and inconsistent amenity standards like the elevator.
I’d actually love to leave a review with the service & rooms at 4.5 and the overall rating at 4.5 but I can’t figure out how to do that on Google. Overall a lovely experience and a really gorgeous and understated hotel in a walkable part of the city. It’s close to the street car which means you don’t need to uber all over if that’s not your style. Only reason rooms are at a 4.5 is because there’s limited closet space (I lived out of my suitcase, would have loved more room to properly hang items) and i would have loved some sort of a coffee machine in the room at well. Service was largely great and friendly. Reason it’s not a 5 is because there was confusion around our check-in due to the text updates from the hotel ? but the staff helped us figure it out and let us check in as early as possible. We’d definitely stay here again. The free breakfast is light fare but enough for a quick bite before you head out to gorge on southern cooking.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Henry Howard Hotel! From the moment we arrived Tyler made sure we were well taken care of. He was very helpful & suggested a bus tour through the city of New Orleans...we jumped at the chance & it was so easy to book right through him. Our room was very spacious & comfortable & the location of this hotel is great with the street car & dining nearby. We picked the Garden District to stay in as it's a bit more quiet...the Henry Howard Hotel was a wonderful choice! Thank you everyone there for our wonderful stay at this beautiful property!
We enjoyed a lovely three-night stay last week while celebrating my 70th birthday. From the moment we arrived, the staff—particularly Ilena, Randy, and Tyler—were warm, welcoming, and friendly. The bed was very comfortable, and our room was a peaceful retreat after long days of exploring. One evening, an older staff member working at night (I believe her name was Betty) was especially knowledgeable and helpful with restaurant and sightseeing recommendations, which we truly appreciated. Overall, we were made to feel very much at home. The staff was consistently kind and accommodating, though at times a bit inexperienced or short on follow-through. Everyone was friendly and eager to help, just not always as polished or professional as we might have expected. When making our reservation by phone, Tyler kindly matched—and even beat by $3—the Booking.com rate. A few days before arrival, we also received a 10th anniversary promotional email offering 10% off and a champagne welcome toast. At check-in, I asked whether this promotion could still apply and was told it would, but was later informed that since the rate had already been price-matched, the promotion could not be honored. The champaign toast was never provided. Never-the-less, I was touched to receive a lovely card signed by the staff along with a coupon for two complimentary drinks, which we did enjoy during our stay. At checkout, however, the coupon was not honored or applied. While not a major issue, it was nice surprise gesture and a small disappointment to have not been received. Again, follow through. Tyler was very helpful in arranging transportation to the airport through a driver friend for a flat $36 fee, which we greatly appreciated. The Community Coffee provided was excellent. The morning pastries, however, seemed a bit dry and likely day-old, so we chose to enjoy breakfast at the charming little bistro across the street on subsequent mornings—which we highly recommend. All in all, we truly enjoyed our stay, appreciated the friendly staff, and found the property to be lovely and comfortable. For future guests: the hotel is located in a quiet area at the lower end of the Garden District, which we found very pleasant. There is no on site food but wine is available by the bottle (starting around $36), though this isn’t always mentioned unless you ask. While individual glasses are on the higher end, the living room ambiance is inviting and convenient for a relaxed evening.
Delightful small hotel, great location. Room was very clean and bed comfortable; we chose one with a balcony. Staff were always available and helpful. Hotel is one block from the tram line and a couple blocks from the bus line.
? ?????????? Our New Favorite Hotel in New Orleans! We have officially found our spot in New Orleans — the Henry Howard Hotel is now our go-to from Pensacola for both family trips and relaxing girls weekends. This boutique hotel in the Garden District is beyond charming. Everything feels so cozy, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed. The beds are unbelievably comfortable and we all slept so well. Morning coffee and the warm breakfast rolls on the front porch are the perfect peaceful start to the day. In the afternoons and evenings, we loved enjoying wine and Tyler’s incredible craft cocktails at The Parlor—he truly elevates the whole experience. The location is perfect: quiet, beautiful, and walkable to St. Charles Avenue, restaurants, the streetcar, and everything you want in the Garden District. The entire staff, especially Bruce, is professional, warm, and so wonderful to work with. Whether we’re visiting Spyre for a wellness weekend or bringing the kids for a little getaway, Henry Howard Hotel checks every box. If you’re looking for a boutique New Orleans hotel with charm, comfort, amazing service, and fantastic cocktails—this is it. My new favorite hotel. Highly recommend!
The Henry Howard Hotel felt like staying at someone’s home in the best way I felt at home instantly the bed was comfortable and the staff so attentive . Seriously soCozy, spotless, and full of charm. The staff was insanely down-to-earth, sweet, and actually helpful not that fake hospitality stuff. The location made everything easy. We had drinks made for us and drank them In our room, got food delivered, and ate out on the balcony like it was our own little spot. I’m obsessed. I’ll absolutely be booking another stay here.
Great way to stay in an old Garden District mansion home. Our room had a large window you open (window goes from ceiling to floor) and step out onto a private balcony. VERY clean room. Much quieter area than the French Quarter.
Tyler was our bartender. We went up to the patio/ rooftop area, where he constantly checked on our needs and wants. Exceptional customer service. We’ll definitely be back.
Henry Howard Hotel was recommended by a friend who grew up in New Orleans. It did not disappoint! Our room was large and comfortable, though the bathroom was definitely dated. We loved the rocking chairs on the porch, though that meant late night voices in room 101. The staff is lovely, and on-site 24/7. They stored my soy milk in the fridge for me. We loved the bath robes, though there were no slippers. Overall, we loved our stay and would definitely love to stay here again!
The hotel was beautiful and very clean. We loved the historic element to it and it was a quick uber away from anything we wanted to do. The parlor serving drinks was a very nice touch. The staff could use some additional training for check-in because they seemed overwhelmed, but were still friendly. Tyler, however was awful to deal with and should not be in hospitality. The A/C in our room was not working an instead of providing solutions, he said we do not understand how A/C works. Well the A/C was broke and a repair guy had to come, we then walked into the lobby to hear Tyler talking badly about us. All we wanted was a cool room like the other's in our party staying there. In addition to that, he charged one person in our party $900 at check-in without confirming the charge first. We had multiple rooms booked under one person and she was not supposed to be paying that fee. It was not until he was questioned that the fee was reversed. The rest of the staff we came into contact with was wonderful.
